This Christmas, I was lucky enough to get a couple of really cool preps on the list of things I’d been wanting!

The Backyard Homestead by Carleen Madigan

This is a book I’ve wanted for a long time (ever since my good friend Liberty N Justice recommended it to me). Although I haven’t really dug into it yet, I’m really excited to.

Why?

It systematically teaches you how to produce all the food you need on just a quarter of an acre (but has site layouts for lots as small as 1/10th of an acre!). With topics ranging from herb gardening, vegetables, food preservation, livestock, grains, beekeeping (super important), butchering and so much more.

There will definitely be a complete and thorough review coming soon after I finish it, but if it already sounds interesting-don’t wait!

IronKey secure USB drive

The second prep that I got an am excited about is an IronKey secure USB drive. You guys have heard me mention these before, but I still hadn’t picked one up yet (they’re kinda expensive at around $100).

So you can imagine I was pretty stoked to see that Santa had gotten one for me.

The IronKey drive is waterproof, shockproof and utilizes military grade encryption to keep your files safe. I use USB drives to store all my sensitive info right on my keychain as part of my EDC.

    After your review on the SOL Escape Bivvy I had Santa pick one up for me. I climbed in it for a few minutes (inside the house) and it got pretty toasty. Thanks for the recommendation. Also, I got $ from the in-laws that I plan on buying an Ember Lit Stove. The bivvy and the stove are both going into my BOB.

      Nice my man! I was definitely still chilly in the SOL when I spent (half) a night in it, but it is by far the best emergency sleeping bag out there. So sick of the cheap mylar tin foil bags that puncture and soak you overnight! The Emberlit dude is a good guy and Utah local. Really nifty stove concept…

    I’ve been learning and teaching myself how to make my own knives, so various family members purchased gifts revolving around the knife making trade!
    More importantly though is how your new baby daughter and wife are doing… please keep us updated as I am sure that the Daily Prep Community is praying for you and your family. Thanks again for all the great videos you put up.

      This is so great man-probably awesome gifts to get! New baby girl is doing great! She was able to come home last week and is doing well. You are right about the update–I should make a quick vid with her in it for everyone. Cheers Josh!
